18-SANDY THOMAS ADV.
P.O. Box 2309,
They both gabbed about my outfit and the fit. "Penny dear," Mary said, "that did it!"
"Did what?" asked Penny with a puzzled look. "Settled in my mind, at least, that Gene simply must have a nice feminine name to go with his beautiful dresses," Mary replied, "Gene simply is not appropriate."
Penny agreed, and over cocktails they discussed various names, but could agree on none that 'fit' my image, even Jennie, Jean and the other obvious ones. I was very quiet, letting them have their fun at my expense.
Finally Mary decided that none of those discussed would be any more suitable and feminine than 'Nancy'.
Penny wrangled for 'Betty' but finally agreed, and I was christened 'Nancy', which was to called whenever I was in feminine attire.
After a lovely evening, we returned home, with Penny's promise to visit us soon. We agreed that it had been a wonderful Saturday night party.
The next morning, as usual, I arose first, and in one of my uniforms. Trying to be pleasing, I fixed breakfast and served it on a tray to Mary in bed.
"How sweet," she said. I straightened up the house then did the dishes. Don't think it was all silk and satin. I had jobs to do. Scrub the kitchen tiles, laundry, hand washing the 'delicates' in the bathroom and dusting. I had been taking more and more of the chores; Mary worked so hard during the week---she deserved her rest and I didn't mind.
Since we had been out late the night before, Mary did not get up to stay up, until after lunch. I

fixed a light lunch, and I changed into my blue shirtwaist dress for the rest of the day.
Mary had shown me how to use her sewing machine to mend a hem. At her insistence, I learned to sew. From the simple running stitch to zigzag to buttonholes to scallops; I learned them all. At first, it was simple tops, then a dress and more. I was very proud when Mary wore a dress I had made to work.
I discovered my long delicately formed fingers were very good at mending and sewing on buttons. I found sewing to be a delightful hobby. Stitch by stitch, point by point, I created some scrumptious dresses and a few skirts for both Mary and me.
I didn't have to sew. In the months that followed, Mary brought me home many new dresses; indeed, hardly a week passed without her bringing some lovely addition to my feminine wardrobe. I soon also had a complete selection of shoes and high heels to match my lovely delightful outfits. It seemed that I was spending more and more time in them.
On one of Penny's visits she had pointed out my need for a wig or hair piece. So Mary and I made a flying trip to New York to purchase one. We had a nice suite at one of New York's wonderful hotels, and we invited the wig maker to come to our suite. We told her it was under the pretense of a turnabout party but she didn't seem to care why we wanted it.
I wore one of my most stunning outfits, a beautiful navy blue suit, and black patent leather pumps. I tried on several wigs, but we finally selected one of the same color as my natural hair, and we promised to return in a few weeks for a final fitting and style.
